The fastest hat-trick in NHL history — three goals in 21 seconds, a record that stands since 1952.

William Mosienko was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1921. He spent his entire 14-season career with the Chicago Black Hawks. He won the Lady Byng Trophy for sportsmanship and gentlemanly play in 1945. He scored 258 career goals and was selected to three All-Star games. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1965. He holds the NHL record for the fastest hat trick in history — scoring three goals in 21 seconds against the New York Rangers on March 23, 1952, a record that has stood for over 70 years. The achievement came in the final game of the season against a Rangers team using his backup goaltender. The three goals in 21 seconds remains the most improbable individual record in hockey — it is almost impossible to imagine it being broken given how the modern game is structured. He was part of the Pony Line alongside Max and Doug Bentley — one of the most celebrated forward lines of the 1940s.
