Destinee Hooker was born in Newark, New Jersey in 1987. She attended the University of Texas where she was a multi-All-American. She won Olympic silver with the United States in Beijing 2008. Her blocking ability — at 6ft 2in with exceptional timing — was considered the finest in women's volleyball of her era. She played professional volleyball in Turkey, Italy and Brazil after her college career. She was among the most physically dominant outside hitters in American volleyball history.
