Amy Yang is a South Korean professional golfer who won her first major title at the 2024 Women's PGA Championship on her 75th major start, after twice finishing runner-up at the U.S. Women's Open.
After 75 major starts and two runner-up finishes at the U.S. Women's Open, Amy Yang finally claimed her first major at the 2024 Women's PGA Championship at Sahalee Country Club, winning by three strokes in one of the longest waits for a debut major title in the sport's history. Her family moved to the Gold Coast of Australia when she was 15 to develop her golf, and as a 16-year-old amateur she won the 2006 ANZ Ladies Masters on the Ladies European Tour, becoming, at the time, the youngest winner of an LET event, and also captured the Smyth Salver as the AIG Women's Open's best-placed amateur that year. Yang turned professional in 2006 and joined the LPGA Tour in 2008, going on to build a long and consistent career, winning her first LPGA title at the 2013 KEB-HanaBank Championship and later three titles at the Honda LPGA Thailand (2015, 2017, 2019). She reached the top of the sport several times without a major title, most agonisingly finishing runner-up at the U.S. Women's Open twice — losing to compatriot Na Yeon Choi by four shots in 2012, and by a single shot to In Gee Chun in 2015 after leading for two rounds. Yang finally broke through in June 2024, winning the Women's PGA Championship at Sahalee Country Club by three strokes in her 75th career major start, one of the longest waits for a first major title in the sport's history. She also won the season-ending CME Group Tour Championship in 2023, and represented South Korea at both the 2016 and 2024 Olympics, continuing to compete at the top level of the LPGA Tour into her late thirties.
