The greatest female golfer in history — 10 majors, 72 LPGA wins and the first woman to shoot 59 in LPGA competition.
Annika Sörenstam was born in Stockholm in 1970 and became the greatest female golfer of her generation and the most statistically dominant LPGA player in the modern era. She turned professional in 1994 and won 10 major championships and 72 LPGA Tour titles — the 3rd most in history. Her majors: ANA Inspiration/Kraft Nabisco (2001, 2002, 2005), US Women's Open (1995, 1996, 2006), LPGA Championship (2003, 2005) and Women's British Open (2003). She won 90 professional titles worldwide. Her scoring average of 69.74 in 2004 is the lowest single-season average in LPGA history — she shot below 70 for an entire season. She was LPGA Player of the Year 8 times. She became the first woman to play in a PGA Tour event since Babe Zaharias in 1945 when she competed at the 2003 Colonial — missing the cut by one shot. Her career from 2001 to 2006 — during which she won 6 majors in 6 years — is the most dominant period by any female golfer since Kathy Whitworth's era. She led Sweden's Solheim Cup teams across 10 appearances. She retired in 2008 and returned briefly to competition in 2022–2023.
