Adam Derek Scott was born on 16 July 1980 in Adelaide, South Australia, to Phil Scott, a PGA club professional who taught him the game from an early age, and the family later moved to Queensland's Sunshine Coast when Adam was nine. Scott attended the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, before turning professional in 2000, and developed into one of the most aesthetically admired ball-strikers in the modern game, with instructors regularly citing his swing as among the finest in golf history. Scott delivered the defining achievement of his career at the 2013 Masters, defeating Ángel Cabrera in a playoff to become the first Australian ever to win the tournament, capping a remarkable season in which he also won the FedEx Cup Playoffs and reached the world No. 1 ranking in May 2014, becoming only the second Australian, after his mentor Greg Norman, to top the rankings. Scott has continued competing at an elite level for over two decades, having qualified for every major championship since the 2001 Open Championship, an active streak spanning more than 90 consecutive majors, and remains one of the most respected and consistent players in the modern game.
