Jason Day

Australian professional golfer who reached world No.1 in 2015 after winning the PGA Championship at Whistling Straits.

Jason Anthony Day was born on 12 November 1987 in Beaudesert, Queensland, Australia, to Alvin Day, an Irish-Australian, and Dening Day, who had migrated from the Philippines. Jason began playing golf at the Beaudesert Golf Club at six, and his father died from stomach cancer when Jason was just 12, a devastating loss that his mother responded to by enrolling him at Kooralbyn International School to give him access to better golf coaching. Day turned professional in July 2006 and became the youngest player ever to win on any of the PGA Tour's three main tours when he claimed a Nationwide Tour event in 2007, before becoming the youngest Australian ever to win on the PGA Tour with victory at the 2010 HP Byron Nelson Championship. Day won his sole major championship at the 2015 PGA Championship with a record score of 20-under par, reaching the world No. 1 ranking that September and holding the position for 51 weeks, and his hometown of Beaudesert later named a street in his honour. Day has continued competing on the PGA Tour, winning the World Cup of Golf alongside fellow Australian Adam Scott in 2013 and 2015, and launched the Brighter Days Foundation with his wife, Ellie, remaining one of Australia's most accomplished modern golfers despite battling injuries in the years since his championship peak.
