Ko Jin-young was born on 7 July 1995 in Seoul, South Korea, and began playing golf at seven, crediting her parents as the greatest influence on her development into one of the finest players in LPGA history. Ko had already won ten times on the LPGA of Korea Tour by age 22 before joining the LPGA Tour for the 2018 season, winning her opening tournament as a member, the ISPS Handa Women's Australian Open, becoming only the second player in tour history to achieve the feat. Ko won back-to-back major championships in 2019, capturing the ANA Inspiration and the Evian Championship, and was named LPGA Player of the Year in both 2019 and 2021, while leading the tour's money list in three consecutive seasons. Ko set the LPGA Tour record for most consecutive rounds under par with 32 in 2022, and has represented South Korea at two Olympic Games, in Tokyo and Paris, continuing to be one of the most statistically dominant players of her generation despite briefly stepping away from full-time competition due to injury.
