Kim Sei-young was born on 21 January 1993 in Seoul, South Korea, and took up golf without any family background in the sport, turning professional at 17 in 2010 and playing on the LPGA of Korea Tour while studying at Korea University. Kim won five times on the Korean domestic tour between 2013 and 2014 before graduating to the LPGA Tour, winning in just her second start and sweeping Rookie of the Year honours in 2015 with three victories in her debut season. Kim set the LPGA's all-time 72-hole scoring record at the 2018 Thornberry Creek LPGA Classic, finishing 31-under par, and captured her first major championship at the 2020 Women's PGA Championship by five strokes, going on to win LPGA Player of the Year honours that season. Kim, a black belt in Taekwondo, ended a five-year winless drought with victory at the 2025 BMW Ladies Championship in front of an enthusiastic home crowd, and has continued competing at the top level of the LPGA Tour, surpassing $17 million in career earnings across more than a decade on tour.
