Cristie Kerr was born on 12 October 1977 in Miami, Florida, and began playing golf at eight, going on to enjoy a decorated amateur career that included winning the 1994 Junior Orange Bowl International Golf Championship and being named 1995 American Junior Golf Association Junior Player of the Year. Kerr turned professional in 1996 and joined the LPGA Tour the following year, developing into one of the most successful American players of her generation despite standing just 5 feet 3 inches, and remains naturally left-handed despite playing golf right-handed.
