An American golfer renowned for elite ball-striking, who won the PGA Championship and The Open both on his first appearance in each event.

Collin Morikawa was born on 6 February 1997 in Los Angeles, California, to Blaine Morikawa, a Japanese American from Hawaii, and Debbie Morikawa, a Chinese American from California, whose family ran a commercial laundry business, and began playing golf at eight at a public course under coach Rick Sessinghaus, who remains his coach to this day. Morikawa played collegiately at the University of California, Berkeley, becoming a four-time All-American and reaching world No. 1 in the amateur rankings in 2018, before turning professional in 2019 and winning his first PGA Tour title in just his sixth start. Morikawa won the PGA Championship in his major championship debut in 2020, and became the first player since Bobby Jones in 1926 to win two majors within his first eight major starts, adding The Open Championship at his first attempt in 2021. Morikawa became the first American golfer to win the European Tour's season-long Order of Merit later that year, and reached a career-high world ranking of second, continuing to compete at the top level of the PGA Tour, proud of the connection his success has forged with fans in Japan given his heritage.
