Rasmus Dahlin

Rasmus Dahlin is a Swedish defenceman who was selected first overall by the Buffalo Sabres in 2018 and has developed into one of the NHL's top offensive defencemen and team captain.

Rasmus Erik Dahlin was born on 13 April 2000 in Trollhättan, Sweden, and made his Swedish Hockey League debut with Frölunda HC in November 2016, quickly establishing himself as the top prospect for the 2018 NHL Draft ahead of players several years his senior in age and experience. The Buffalo Sabres selected Dahlin first overall in 2018, widely regarded as the most talented player available in his draft class, and he made an immediate impact, finishing third in Calder Trophy voting as a rookie defenceman in his debut NHL season. Dahlin represented Sweden at the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympics before even making his NHL debut, and developed into one of the league's most reliable two-way defencemen, earning multiple NHL All-Star selections across the following several seasons. Dahlin became captain of the Buffalo Sabres, and represented Sweden again at the 2026 Milano Cortina Olympics, remaining one of the most highly regarded and consistently productive young defencemen in the modern NHL today.
