Jesper Bratt was born on 30 July 1998 in Stockholm, Sweden, and the New Jersey Devils selected him in the sixth round, 162nd overall, of the 2016 NHL Draft after he scored 17 points in 48 games with AIK in HockeyAllsvenskan the previous season. Bratt impressed Devils general manager Ray Shero during the 2017 Under-20 Summer Showcase in Michigan, signing an entry-level contract and making his NHL debut the following season, despite having been ranked as a lower-round prospect by most professional scouting services. Bratt developed into one of the league's most underrated offensive talents, becoming an alternate captain for New Jersey and consistently outperforming his draft position with sustained, high-level offensive production year after year in the NHL. Bratt has continued to represent Sweden internationally and remains one of the Devils' most important forwards, having built one of the great value-pick careers of his draft class since being selected so late back in 2016.
