Gabriel Landeskog

Gabriel Landeskog is a Swedish left wing who has captained the Colorado Avalanche since 2012 and led the franchise to a Stanley Cup championship in 2022, though injuries have limited him since.

At 19 years and 286 days old, Gabriel Landeskog became the youngest captain in NHL history when the Colorado Avalanche named him to the role in September 2012 — a record that stood until Connor McDavid surpassed it, and one that reflected the immediate leadership qualities the Avalanche saw in their second-overall pick. The Colorado Avalanche selected Landeskog second overall in the 2011 NHL Draft, and he was named the fourth captain in franchise history on 4 September 2012, becoming, at 19 years and 286 days old, the youngest captain in NHL history at the time, a record later broken by Connor McDavid. Landeskog won the Stanley Cup with the Avalanche in 2022, playing through a serious knee injury during the championship run that kept him sidelined for nearly three subsequent seasons, becoming only the second Swedish-born captain to lead a team to the title. Landeskog has continued to captain the Avalanche following his recovery, representing Sweden internationally throughout his career, and remains one of the most respected leaders in the modern NHL.
