Quinn Hughes

Quinn Hughes is an American defenceman who became captain of the Vancouver Canucks and won the Norris Trophy in 2024 as the NHL's top defenceman.

Quintin Jerome Hughes was born on 14 October 1999 in Orlando, Florida, to Ellen Weinberg-Hughes, a three-sport athlete who won silver at the 1992 IIHF Women's World Championships, and Jim Hughes, an assistant coach for the Orlando Solar Bears at the time of Quinn's birth. Hughes is the oldest of three brothers who all became first-round NHL draft picks, a feat unmatched by any other American family, with younger brothers Jack and Luke both selected by the New Jersey Devils. The Vancouver Canucks selected Hughes seventh overall in the 2018 NHL Draft, and he developed into one of the league's finest offensive defencemen, winning the Norris Trophy as the NHL's best defenceman in 2024. Hughes was traded to the Minnesota Wild in a December transaction, and has continued to represent the United States internationally, being voted the tournament's Best Defender at the 2026 Winter Olympics, remaining one of the most complete defencemen in the modern NHL.
