Clayton Davis Keller was born on 29 July 1998 in Chesterfield, Missouri, and was raised in Swansea, Illinois, developing his early skills alongside a group of talented young players from the greater St. Louis hockey scene before attending Shattuck-Saint Mary's, the same prep school that produced Sidney Crosby. Keller joined the USA Hockey National Team Development Program in 2014, setting a program scoring record with 189 points that stood until Jack Hughes broke it in 2019, before playing one standout season at Boston University, where he was named Hockey East Rookie of the Year. The Arizona Coyotes selected Keller seventh overall in the 2016 NHL Draft, and he developed into one of the franchise's most consistent offensive players, earning multiple NHL All-Star selections across his career.
