Mitchell Daniel Marner was born on 5 May 1997 in Markham, Ontario, Canada, and grew up in nearby Thornhill, developing his skills through the Greater Toronto Hockey League before starring for the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League, where he led the league in scoring as a sophomore. The Toronto Maple Leafs selected Marner fourth overall in the 2015 NHL Draft, fulfilling a childhood dream for a player who grew up idolising the hometown franchise, and he developed into one of the league's most creative and productive playmakers. Marner set the Maple Leafs' single-season franchise assist record, and became a central figure in Toronto's core group during a period of sustained playoff success, renowned for his exceptional vision and ability to set up teammates.
