The Vancouver Canucks selected Bo Horvat ninth overall in the 2013 NHL Draft, and he grew into the franchise's captain by 2019 — a steady two-way centre who represented the best of Ontario's junior hockey pipeline before anchoring the New York Islanders' rebuild from 2023 onwards. Horvat starred for the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League, winning two J. Ross Robertson Cup titles and the Wayne Gretzky 99 Award as playoff MVP in 2013, the same year the Vancouver Canucks selected him ninth overall in the NHL Draft.
