Elaine Davis

Jamaican attacker who captained the Sunshine Girls and was part of Jamaica's 2003 and 2007 World Championship bronze-medal teams.

Elaine Lamour Davis was born on 21 September 1976, and attended Glenmuir High School before studying at the University of Technology, Jamaica. She made her international debut for Jamaica's Sunshine Girls at the 1995 Netball World Championships in Birmingham, England, against Barbados, launching a 12-year run of continuous representation for her country. Davis played goal shooter for most of her career, representing Jamaica at the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Malaysia and a series of international friendlies and Test matches against New Zealand, South Africa, and England around the turn of the millennium. At the 1999 World Netball Championships in Christchurch, she emerged as the tournament's third-highest goal scorer. Davis delivered the finest performance of her international career at the 2003 World Netball Championships, held at London's newly built National Indoor Sports Centre, where she was pivotal in guiding Jamaica to a third-place finish behind Australia and New Zealand. Davis played domestically for Jamalco and the Kingston Hummingbirds, and remains remembered as one of the most reliable and consistent shooters in the history of Jamaican netball, her replacement in the Sunshine Girls squad in 2005 going to a young Romelda Aiken.
