Caroline Wozniacki was born in Odense, Denmark in 1990, the daughter of Polish professional footballer Piotr Woźniacki. She turned professional in 2005 and won 30 WTA singles titles. She was world number one for 71 weeks — the first Scandinavian player to reach the ranking's summit. She won her only Grand Slam at the 2018 Australian Open, defeating Simona Halep in an extraordinary three-set final. She reached the US Open final twice (2009, 2014) without winning. She was renowned for her defensive baseline game, court coverage and extraordinary physical fitness — running the New York City Marathon in 3:26:33 in 2014.
