Holger Rune is a Danish professional tennis player who won the 2022 Paris Masters as a teenager and reached a career-high ranking of world No. 4.
Holger Vitus Nødskov Rune was born on 29 April 2003 in Gentofte, Denmark, to Aneke Rune, who later became his manager, and Anders Nødskov, an entrepreneur, and has an older sister, Alma, whose own involvement in tennis first inspired him to pick up a racquet at six. He initially played football but preferred tennis's individual nature, later explaining he liked being solely responsible for his own results rather than depending on teammates. Rune trained under coach Lars Christensen throughout his childhood and joined the Mouratoglou Tennis Academy in France at 13, becoming the world's top-ranked junior in 2019 and winning the boys' singles title at that year's French Open. Rune turned professional in 2020 and made a rapid ascent through the ATP rankings, winning the 2022 Paris Masters as a teenager and becoming, in doing so, the first player on record to defeat five top-10 opponents at a single non-Finals event. That victory pushed him into the ATP top 10 for the first time. Rune reached a career-high singles ranking of world No. 4 in August 2023, becoming the highest-ranked Danish player in ATP history, and has reached the quarter-finals of the French Open, Wimbledon, and been coached at various points by Boris Becker and Patrick Mouratoglou, continuing to develop as one of the most talented young players of his generation.
