Casper Ruud

Casper Ruud is a Norwegian professional tennis player known for his consistency on clay, reaching three Grand Slam finals and a career-high ranking of world No. 2.

Casper Ruud was born on 22 December 1998 in Oslo, Norway, the son of Christian Ruud, a former professional player who had been Norway's highest-ranked man on the ATP Tour, reaching a career-high of world No. 39 in 1995. Casper grew up around the sport and turned professional in 2015, developing into one of the most consistent clay-court players of his generation under his father's coaching. Ruud surpassed his father's ranking in February 2020, and went on to reach a career-high singles ranking of world No. 2 on 12 September 2022, becoming comfortably the highest-ranked Norwegian player in the sport's history. He has won 14 ATP Tour titles across his career, the majority on clay. Ruud reached three Grand Slam finals within a 15-month span: the 2022 French Open, the 2022 US Open, and the 2023 French Open, losing all three but establishing himself as one of the most reliable performers on the biggest stages in men's tennis. He also reached the final of the 2022 ATP Finals. Ruud has continued to represent Norway at the top level of men's tennis, including at multiple Olympic Games, and remains one of the most consistent clay-court competitors on the ATP Tour, carrying forward a family tennis legacy shaped directly by his father's own playing career.

Ruud is known for his exceptional clay court game, featuring heavy topspin forehands and solid baseline play. He possesses excellent court positioning and tactical awareness, with particular strength in long rallies and defensive situations.

Ruud pioneered Norwegian tennis success at the highest level, becoming the first Norwegian player to reach a Grand Slam final and achieve a top-3 world ranking.
