Yuvraj Singh was born on 12 December 1981 in Chandigarh, India, the son of former Indian cricketer Yograj Singh, and initially preferred tennis and roller skating, winning national junior roller skating championships before his father steered him toward cricket. Yuvraj made his international debut in 2000, and became one of India's most explosive all-rounders, delivering the defining moment of his early career at the 2007 T20 World Cup, becoming the first batter in the format's history to hit six sixes in a single over, achieved against England's Stuart Broad. Yuvraj was named Player of the Tournament at the 2011 Cricket World Cup, scoring 362 runs and taking 15 wickets to help India win the trophy on home soil for the first time in 28 years, only to be diagnosed with a rare cancerous tumour in his lung shortly afterward.
