Younis Khan

Younis Khan was a Pakistani batsman who became the country's highest Test run-scorer and led Pakistan to victory in the 2009 ICC World Twenty20.

Mohammad Younis Khan was born on 29 November 1977 in Mardan, in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, and moved to Karachi as a child, where his talent caught the attention of Rashid Latif and Saeed Anwar at the Malir Gymkhana sports club. Younis made his international debut in 2000, scoring a century in his first Test innings, and developed into one of the finest batters in Pakistani cricket history, becoming the only Pakistani player to score more than 10,000 Test runs. Younis scored 34 Test centuries, the most by any Pakistani batter, including the country's first-ever Test triple century, and captained Pakistan to victory at the 2009 ICC World Twenty20, the country's first global limited-overs title. Younis retired from international cricket in 2017, and was named one of Wisden's five Cricketers of the Year that same year, having earlier been honoured as India's Cricketer of the Year in 2016, an unusual distinction for a Pakistani player. He later served as Pakistan's batting coach, remaining one of the most respected and technically accomplished batters the country has produced.

Younis Khan was known for his solid technique and mental toughness, particularly in challenging conditions. He was an orthodox right-handed batsman who excelled at building long innings and was particularly strong against spin bowling. His ability to adapt his game to different situations made him valuable across all formats of the game.

Younis Khan left a lasting impact as one of Pakistan's most consistent and successful batsmen, inspiring a generation of cricketers with his dedication and professionalism.
