Yashasvi Jaiswal

Yashasvi Jaiswal is an Indian left-handed opening batsman who rose from selling street food to becoming a Test double centurion in consecutive matches against England in 2024.

Yashasvi Bhupendra Kumar Jaiswal was born on 28 December 2001 in Suriyawan, in the Bhadohi district of Uttar Pradesh, India, the son of a small hardware store owner, and moved to Mumbai at just ten or eleven years old to pursue his dream of playing cricket for the city that produced his idol, Sachin Tendulkar. Jaiswal endured significant hardship in his early years in Mumbai, at one point living in a groundsman's tent at Azad Maidan and helping sell pani puri, a popular Indian street snack, to support himself, before his talent was spotted by coach Jwala Singh, who became his mentor and legal guardian. Jaiswal became the youngest player ever to score a double century in India's List A Vijay Hazare Trophy at just 17, and went on to make his international debut for India, quickly establishing himself as one of the country's most promising young opening batters. Jaiswal has continued to represent India across formats, and plays in the Indian Premier League for the Rajasthan Royals, having also joined Goa in domestic first-class cricket, remaining one of the most compelling rags-to-riches stories in modern Indian cricket.

Jaiswal is an aggressive left-handed opening batsman known for his attacking approach and ability to dominate bowling attacks. He possesses excellent timing, a wide range of shots, and shows particular strength in playing spin bowling.
