Zaheer Khan

Zaheer Khan was an Indian left-arm fast bowler who led India's pace attack for over a decade and was the joint-highest wicket-taker at the 2011 Cricket World Cup.

Zaheer Khan was born on 7 October 1978 in Shrirampur, Maharashtra, India, the son of a photographer father who ran a small studio doing passport photos, and moved to Mumbai at 17 to pursue cricket seriously, giving up strong academic marks in engineering studies to train at the National Cricket Club. Zaheer made his international debut in 2000, and developed into India's finest left-arm fast bowler and the country's second-most successful pace bowler in Test history behind only Kapil Dev, renowned for his ability to swing the new ball and reverse the old. Zaheer played a pivotal role in India's rise to the number one Test ranking, and was the leading wicket-taker as India won the 2011 Cricket World Cup on home soil, a triumph he later called his greatest cricketing moment. Zaheer retired from international cricket in 2015, and has continued his involvement in the sport through coaching and mentoring roles, having earlier married Bollywood actress Sagarika Ghatge, remaining one of the most respected fast bowlers India has produced.

Zaheer Khan was a skillful left-arm fast-medium bowler who relied on swing and seam movement rather than raw pace. He possessed an excellent outswinger to right-handed batsmen and could reverse swing the old ball effectively. His accuracy, ability to bowl long spells, and tactical awareness made him India's go-to bowler in crucial situations.

Zaheer Khan transformed India's pace bowling attack and proved that Indian fast bowlers could succeed in all conditions worldwide. He inspired a generation of Indian pace bowlers and showed that skill and intelligence could be as effective as express pace.
