Xander Schauffele

Olympic gold medalist (2020 Tokyo) who completed a breakthrough two-major season in 2024.

Alexander Victor Schauffele was born on 25 October 1993 in San Diego, California, to Stefan Schauffele, a German-French former decathlete whose Olympic dreams ended when he was hit by a drunk driver at 20, and Chen Ping-yi, who was born in Taiwan and raised in Japan. Stefan became Xander's only swing coach, introducing him to the game at ten. Schauffele played collegiately at Long Beach State and San Diego State before turning professional in 2015, and was named PGA Tour Rookie of the Year in 2017 after winning both the Greenbrier Classic and the season-ending Tour Championship in his debut season. Schauffele won the gold medal in the delayed Tokyo 2020 Olympics, becoming the first American to win Olympic golf gold since 1900, a victory he dedicated to his father given his own dashed Olympic ambitions, and delivered a breakthrough major season in 2024, winning both the PGA Championship and The Open Championship. Schauffele has continued to compete at the top of the world rankings, reaching as high as world No. 2, and remains one of the most consistent performers in major championships of his generation, close friends with fellow San Diego native Phil Mickelson.
