Viktor Hovland

Norwegian golfer who became the first from his country to win on the PGA Tour and has since won the Memorial, BMW Championship, and Tour Championship/FedEx Cup.

Viktor Hovland was born on 18 September 1997 in Oslo, Norway, and was introduced to golf at age three or four by his father, though it was not until the family spent time in St. Louis, Missouri, where his father worked as an engineer, that Hovland, at 11, first began to seriously pursue the sport. Hovland won the Norwegian Amateur Championship in 2014, and played college golf at Oklahoma State University, winning the 2018 U.S. Amateur and reaching the world No. 1 amateur ranking before turning professional in 2019. Hovland became the first Norwegian golfer ever to win on the PGA Tour, claiming the 2020 Puerto Rico Open, and the first Norwegian to win on the European Tour the following year, going on to win the season-ending Tour Championship and FedEx Cup in 2023 after a career-best campaign that included three PGA Tour victories. Hovland has represented Norway at two Olympic Games, in Tokyo and Paris, and has continued to compete at the top level of the sport, becoming Norway's first global golf superstar in a nation more traditionally associated with winter sports than links golf.
