Three majors and the most dedicated practitioner in golf — Vijay Singh ended Tiger Woods' world number one reign through sheer volume of victories.
Vijay Singh, born in Lautoka, Fiji, won three major championships — the 1998 and 2004 PGA Championships and the 2000 Masters — and became renowned as the hardest-working player in golf, famous for hitting more range balls in practice than any of his rivals. In 2004, at the age of 41, he ended Tiger Woods' record reign atop the world rankings largely through sheer volume of victories, winning nine times that season alone including four in a row at one stage. Singh became the first Fijian and one of the first Asian-born players to reach world number one, and remained competitive on tour and later the Champions Tour deep into his fifties.
