Shakib Al Hasan was born on 24 March 1987 in Magura, Bangladesh, to a father who played football, and developed into the finest all-rounder Bangladesh has ever produced, making his ODI debut against Zimbabwe in 2006 and Test debut against India the following year. Shakib became the first cricketer in history to be simultaneously ranked the world's number one all-rounder in Test, ODI, and T20I cricket, and delivered arguably the greatest individual World Cup performance in the tournament's history at the 2019 edition, becoming the first player to score 600 runs and take 11 wickets in a single World Cup. Shakib captained Bangladesh across all formats at various points in his career, and represented numerous franchise teams internationally, including Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League. Shakib entered Bangladeshi politics, serving as a Member of Parliament for Magura-1 from January to August 2024, before retiring from international cricket in October 2024, remaining one of the most influential and closely followed sportspeople in Bangladesh's history, both on the field and beyond it.
