Sergei Andreyevich Bobrovsky was born on 20 September 1988 in Novokuznetsk, Russian SFSR, Soviet Union, and developed his game with Metallurg Novokuznetsk before joining the Philadelphia Flyers as an undrafted free agent, arriving in the NHL without the benefit of North American junior or college hockey experience. Bobrovsky was traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2012, where he won the Vezina Trophy as the league's top goaltender in both 2013 and 2017, becoming one of the most decorated goaltenders of his generation in the modern era. Bobrovsky signed with the Florida Panthers in 2019, and delivered career-defining performances during the team's championship runs, winning back-to-back Stanley Cups in 2024 and 2025 as the franchise's starting netminder. Bobrovsky has continued to anchor Florida's crease well into his late thirties, refining his technique throughout his career, including adopting the reverse-VH style during his time in Columbus, and remains one of the most accomplished goaltenders to have come through the Russian development system.
