Peter O'Mahony is a combative Irish back-rower and long-time Munster captain who has been a mainstay of the Ireland squad for over a decade.

Peter James O'Mahony was born on 17 September 1989 in Cork, Ireland, and attended Presentation Brothers College, where he first developed the leadership qualities that would define his career, going on to captain the school, Ireland's under-18s, under-20s, Munster, Ireland, and the British & Irish Lions. He joined the Munster academy in 2008 after starring for Cork Constitution, whom he captained to the 2009-10 All-Ireland League and Cup double. O'Mahony made his Munster debut in January 2010 and developed into one of the most combative and influential flankers in the northern hemisphere, renowned for his lineout expertise and physical, high-work-rate style. He made his senior Ireland debut in 2012 and helped the country win Six Nations titles in 2014 and 2015, starting every match of the latter championship. A serious knee ligament injury at the 2015 World Cup kept O'Mahony sidelined for nearly a year, but he returned to become one of Ireland's most important players, captaining the national team on numerous occasions and playing a key role in the country's 2018 Grand Slam and historic series win in New Zealand. In 2017, he became the first Cork Constitution player since Tom Kiernan in 1968 to captain a British & Irish Lions Test team. O'Mahony retired from Munster in 2025 after 15 seasons with the province, having become one of the most decorated and respected leaders in Irish rugby history, renowned as much for his combative on-field intensity as for his composed, articulate leadership off it.
