Pavel Andreyevich Buchnevich was born on 17 April 1995 in Cherepovets, Russia, and began his professional career with his hometown team, Severstal Cherepovets, in the Kontinental Hockey League during the 2012-13 season, quickly emerging as a highly touted prospect. The New York Rangers selected Buchnevich in the third round, 75th overall, of the 2013 NHL Draft, though he initially remained in Russia, moving to SKA Saint Petersburg before finally joining the Rangers organisation and making his NHL debut in 2016. Buchnevich developed into a productive top-six forward for the Rangers, playing on the team's top line alongside Mika Zibanejad and Chris Kreider, before being traded to the St. Louis Blues in the summer of 2021. Buchnevich has continued to be one of the Blues' most reliable offensive contributors, representing Russia internationally throughout his career and remaining one of the more accomplished Russian-born forwards to have transitioned successfully from the KHL to sustained NHL production at the highest level.
