Olivier Jonathan Giroud was born on 30 September 1986 in Chambéry, France, and was raised in the nearby village of Froges, where his older brother Romain also played football at national youth level for France. Olivier began his career with hometown side Grenoble before spells at Istres and Tours, where he was named Ligue 2 Player of the Year in 2010 after finishing as the division's top scorer. Giroud moved to Montpellier, helping the unfashionable club win a surprise Ligue 1 title in 2012, before Arsenal signed him that same year. His clinical finishing, aerial ability, and eye for spectacular scorpion-kick and back-heel goals made him a fan favourite over six seasons in London, before he moved across the capital to Chelsea in 2018, winning the Europa League the following year. Giroud went on to play for AC Milan, helping the club win the 2021-22 Serie A title, before a spell in Major League Soccer with Los Angeles FC and a return to French football with Lille in 2025. Standing 1.93 metres tall, he became renowned throughout his career for his hold-up play and ability to bring teammates into attacking moves.
