Born Lorenzo Bruno Nero Dallaglio in London on 10 August 1972, Lawrence Dallaglio arrived at Wasps as a teenager and never played for another club across a career that spanned nearly two decades. He formed a formidable back-row trinity with Richard Hill and Neil Back, and was a key member of the England side that won the Grand Slam and Rugby World Cup in 2003. Dallaglio enjoyed the rare distinction of being a Rugby World Cup winner in both the 15-a-side and Sevens formats, having won the Sevens World Cup at Murrayfield in 1993, a decade before his 2003 triumph. He was capped 85 times for England, captaining the side for 22 of those appearances, and was an ever-present in the British & Irish Lions' victorious Test series against South Africa in 1997. Having initially retired from international rugby, Dallaglio was persuaded to return for the 2007 Rugby World Cup in France, where his leadership played a significant role in guiding England to a second consecutive World Cup final, this time a defeat to South Africa. Dallaglio was inducted into the World Rugby Hall of Fame in 2016. Since retiring, he has become a prominent television and radio pundit, and founded the Lawrence Dallaglio Foundation, which helps young people access opportunities through sport and raises funds for cancer trusts.
