Kyle Sinckler is an England prop known for his athleticism and ball skills, a two-time British & Irish Lions tourist.

Kyle Norval Jonathan Nikolas Sean Sinckler was born on 30 March 1993 in Wandsworth, London, England, and grew up in nearby Merton. His mother, Donna, introduced him to rugby after his physical style of play saw him drop out of football as a boy, taking him to local club Battersea Ironsides in Earlsfield before he progressed to Graveney School and Epsom College. Sinckler signed with Harlequins' academy and made his senior debut in 2011, developing into one of the most dynamic and athletic props in world rugby, renowned for his ball-carrying, work rate, and surprisingly deft handling skills for a forward of his size. He made his England debut in 2016 and quickly established himself as a first-choice tighthead. Sinckler played every match of England's run to the 2019 World Cup final, though his tournament ended prematurely in the final itself, substituted after just three minutes following an accidental elbow from teammate Maro Itoje during a tackle. He was selected for the British and Irish Lions in both 2017 and 2021. Sinckler moved to Bristol Bears in 2020 before joining French club Toulon in 2024, continuing his international career for England while playing his club rugby in the Top 14, and remains one of the most physically dynamic props of his generation.

Playing Style

How They Played

Sinckler is renowned for his exceptional mobility around the field, unusual for a tighthead prop, often operating like a back-row forward in loose play. His ball-handling skills and offloading ability set him apart from traditional front-row forwards, while he maintains the core scrummaging and lineout skills essential to his position.

Legacy

Lasting Impact

Sinckler helped redefine the modern tighthead prop position by demonstrating that front-row forwards could be dynamic ball-carriers and playmakers while maintaining their traditional set-piece responsibilities.
