Ben Youngs

Ben Youngs is England's record-cap scrum-half, forming a long-standing half-back partnership and playing in four Rugby World Cups.

Benjamin Ryder Youngs was born on 5 September 1989 in Aylsham, England, the son of Nick Youngs, a former Leicester Tigers and England hooker, and younger brother of Tom Youngs, who also became a professional hooker for Leicester and England — making the Youngs family one of English rugby's most significant sporting dynasties. He attended Gresham's School before joining Leicester Tigers' academy. Youngs made his senior Leicester debut in 2007 and spent his entire 18-year professional career with the club, developing into one of the quickest and most instinctive scrum-halves in world rugby, renowned for his snipe around the fringes of the ruck. He made his England debut in 2010 and went on to become the country's most-capped scrum-half of his era. Youngs was selected for the British and Irish Lions in 2013, and represented England across four World Cup cycles, including the runners-up campaign in 2019, becoming one of the most experienced and consistently reliable players in the national team's history. Youngs retired from both Leicester and international rugby in 2025 having earned well over 100 caps for England, a career built on remarkable longevity at his position and an enduring family legacy in the English game.

Youngs is renowned for his quick service from the base of scrums and rucks, providing fast ball to his fly-half and backline. He possesses excellent acceleration and is a constant threat around the fringes, often exploiting gaps near the breakdown with his sniping runs.

Youngs has set the standard for longevity and consistency at scrum-half for England, becoming the most-capped English player in his position.
