JuVaughn Krishna Harrison, born Blake, was born on 30 April 1999 in Huntsville, Alabama, to Jamaican immigrant parents; his mother, Georgia Harrison, competed as a hurdler at Alabama A&M University. He attended Columbia High School in Huntsville, setting school records in the high jump, long jump, and hurdles while also playing wide receiver in football. Harrison enrolled at Louisiana State University, training under jumps coach Todd Lane, and became the first athlete in NCAA history to win national titles in both the high jump and long jump during the same indoor and outdoor seasons. Harrison delivered a landmark performance at the 2021 NCAA Indoor Championships, completing the finest one-day long jump and high jump double in history within the same session, becoming the first person ever to clear 8.40 metres in the long jump and 2.30 metres in the high jump on the same day. Harrison has continued to compete in both disciplines at the international level for the United States, remaining one of the most versatile and technically gifted jumpers in modern track and field history.
