Fredrick Lee Kerley was born on 7 May 1995 in San Antonio, Texas, and grew up in Taylor, Texas, attending Taylor High School before playing football and running track, later competing at South Plains College and Texas A&M University alongside his younger brother, Mylik. Kerley began his career as a 400m specialist, setting an NCAA record of 43.70 seconds in 2017, before transitioning to shorter sprints and becoming one of only three men in history to run under 10 seconds in the 100m, under 20 seconds in the 200m, and under 44 seconds in the 400m. Kerley won the 100m world title at the 2022 World Championships, and earned Olympic silver in the 100m at the delayed Tokyo 2020 Games and bronze at the 2024 Paris Olympics, establishing himself as one of the most versatile sprinters of his generation. Kerley was suspended for two years in March 2026 after missing three doping tests between May and December 2024, a violation known as a "whereabouts failure" under anti-doping rules, and joined the Enhanced Games, a new competition that permits performance-enhancing substances, later in 2026, stating he intended to compete clean despite the format's rules.
