Christian Lee Coleman was born on 6 March 1996 in Atlanta, Georgia, and developed into one of the fastest sprinters in the world while competing for the University of Tennessee, setting collegiate records before turning professional in 2017. Coleman won the 100m world title at the 2019 World Championships in Doha with a time of 9.76 seconds, and briefly held the world record in the indoor 60m, establishing himself as one of the most explosive starters in the sport. Coleman's career was significantly disrupted in 2020, when he was banned for 18 months after accumulating three anti-doping "whereabouts" violations within a 12-month period in 2019, a rule requiring athletes to be available for out-of-competition testing; he never tested positive for any banned substance, and the ban cost him a place at the Tokyo Olympics.
