Five world championships — back-to-back 250cc titles in 2006 and 2007, then MotoGP crowns in 2010, 2012, and 2015 — establish Jorge Lorenzo as the most successful Spanish MotoGP champion by title count and one of the most technically precise riders Grand Prix motorcycle racing has produced. Lorenzo won back-to-back 250cc World Championships in 2006 and 2007, before graduating to MotoGP in 2008, where he became the youngest rider to finish on the podium in his first three premier-class races, taking the record from compatriot and future rival Dani Pedrosa by a single day. Lorenzo won his first MotoGP World Championship in 2010, defeating teammate Valentino Rossi in a fierce intra-team rivalry that defined much of his career, and added further titles in 2012 and 2015 — the latter secured with a spectacular win from pole in the season finale at Valencia. Lorenzo, nicknamed "the Spartan" for his relentless training regime and mental resilience, moved to Ducati in 2017, winning races at Mugello, Catalunya, and the Red Bull Ring in 2018. He retired as a five-time world champion, ranking sixth on the all-time MotoGP wins list with 68 career victories, and remains one of the most successful Spanish riders in Grand Prix motorcycle racing history.
