Explosive young Congolese forward whose athleticism and scoring potential have made him one of the Golden State Warriors' most exciting developing talents.

Jonathan Malangu Kuminga was born on 6 October 2002 in Goma, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, to parents Didier Kuminga and Bigitte Kapinga, both of whom played basketball in the DRC, and began playing the sport himself at just two years old. He moved to the United States in 2016 to pursue high school basketball, attending Huntington Prep in West Virginia before transferring to schools in New York and New Jersey. Kuminga reclassified to the 2020 class, bypassing his senior year of high school to join the NBA G League Ignite programme, forgoing college basketball entirely in favour of professional development. The Golden State Warriors selected Kuminga seventh overall in the 2021 NBA Draft, and he won an NBA championship as a rookie in 2022, developing into an increasingly important scoring option for the Warriors as his role expanded over subsequent seasons. Kuminga was traded to the Atlanta Hawks in 2026, and has remained a vocal advocate for his homeland, following in the philanthropic footsteps of fellow Congolese NBA legend Dikembe Mutombo by supporting communities in the DRC amid the country's decades of instability.
