Jake Allen Guentzel was born on 6 October 1994 in Omaha, Nebraska, and grew up in Woodbury, Minnesota, playing two years of varsity hockey at Hill-Murray School before the Pittsburgh Penguins selected him in the third round, 77th overall, of the 2013 NHL Draft. Guentzel developed into one of the league's most reliable playoff performers, winning the Stanley Cup with Pittsburgh in 2017 and forming a potent scoring connection with franchise legend Sidney Crosby for the remainder of his time with the team. Guentzel was traded to the Carolina Hurricanes and later signed with the Tampa Bay Lightning, becoming an alternate captain and continuing to be one of the league's most efficient goal-scorers. Guentzel has continued to represent the United States internationally, and remains one of the most respected two-way wingers of his generation, having built his early reputation as one of the finest playoff scorers to emerge from Pittsburgh's championship-era roster.
