Dillian Whyte

Dillian Whyte is a Jamaican-born British heavyweight boxer who twice held the WBC interim heavyweight title.

Dillian Whyte was born on 11 April 1988 in Port Antonio, Portland, Jamaica, and moved to the United Kingdom at 12, settling in Brixton, south London, where he has said boxing "saved me and changed my life" after a difficult and turbulent upbringing. He began training at Miguel's Boxing Gym in Brixton, and also competed as a kickboxer and mixed martial artist before focusing fully on boxing. Whyte turned professional in 2011 after winning the BIKMA British super-heavyweight kickboxing title and the European K-1 title, and developed into one of the most durable and hard-hitting heavyweights in British boxing. He won the British heavyweight title in 2016, and was ranked the United Kingdom's number one heavyweight for five consecutive years. Whyte's most famous rivalry was with Anthony Joshua, whom he first defeated as an amateur before losing a competitive professional rematch in 2015 — the only loss on Joshua's record for several years. He held the WBC interim heavyweight title on two separate occasions between 2019 and 2022, and challenged Tyson Fury for the WBC heavyweight title in 2022 in front of a record British boxing crowd at Wembley Stadium, though he was stopped in the sixth round. Whyte, who cited Jack Dempsey and Lennox Lewis as boxing heroes growing up, has continued competing at world level well into his late thirties, remaining one of British heavyweight boxing's most popular and resilient figures.
