Dmitry Bivol

Dmitry Bivol is a Russian light-heavyweight boxer who became undisputed champion in 2025.

Dmitry Yuryevich Bivol was born on 18 December 1990 in Tokmok, in what was then the Kirghiz SSR of the Soviet Union, and took up boxing at six, developing rapidly given his unusually large size relative to other boys his age, which helped build his early confidence against older amateur opponents. He compiled an outstanding amateur record of 268 wins against 15 losses, winning two junior world championships and a bronze medal at the 2008 AIBA Youth World Championships. Bivol won Russian national amateur titles at light heavyweight in both 2012 and 2014, before turning professional in November 2014 and winning his first six fights all by knockout. He developed into one of the most technically gifted and avoided fighters in the light heavyweight division, winning multiple world titles and building a reputation for exceptional boxing IQ and adaptability. Bivol delivered the signature victory of his career on 7 May 2022, defeating pound-for-pound star Saúl "Canelo" Álvarez by unanimous decision to hand the Mexican superstar just his second professional defeat, a result widely regarded as one of the finest tactical performances in recent boxing history. Bivol went on to defeat Artur Beterbiev in a February 2025 rematch to become the undisputed light heavyweight champion, continuing to compete at the very top of one of boxing's most competitive divisions.
