Alex Pietrangelo

Alex Pietrangelo is a Canadian defenceman who captained the St. Louis Blues to their first Stanley Cup in 2019 and won a second Cup with Vegas in 2023.

Alexander Pietrangelo was born on 18 January 1990 in King City, Ontario, Canada, and progressed through minor hockey in the Greater Toronto Area before playing for the Niagara IceDogs and Barrie Colts of the Ontario Hockey League as a highly regarded junior prospect. The St. Louis Blues selected Pietrangelo fourth overall in the 2008 NHL Draft, and he developed into one of the league's most complete defencemen, becoming captain of the Blues for his final four seasons with the franchise. Pietrangelo, nicknamed "Petro," won the Stanley Cup with St. Louis in 2019, delivering a crucial role in the franchise's first-ever championship, before signing with the Vegas Golden Knights in 2020 and winning a second title with the organisation in 2023. Pietrangelo has represented Canada internationally throughout his career, winning World Junior Championship gold and multiple individual defensive honours, and remains one of the most respected two-time Stanley Cup-winning defencemen of his entire generation.
