Aleksander Barkov

Aleksander Barkov is a Finnish centre and Florida Panthers captain celebrated for two-way excellence and back-to-back Stanley Cup titles.

Aleksander Aleksandrovich "Sasha" Barkov was born on 2 September 1995 in Tampere, Finland, into a family of Russian heritage, and developed into one of the most complete two-way centres in the modern NHL after playing for Tappara in Finland's domestic league. The Florida Panthers selected Barkov second overall in the 2013 NHL Draft, and he became the first player in franchise history to record six consecutive 50-point, 20-goal seasons, along with becoming the first Panther ever to win the Frank J. Selke Trophy as the league's premier defensive forward. Barkov was named captain of the Panthers in 2018, and led the franchise to its first Stanley Cup Final appearance in over two decades in 2023, before winning back-to-back championships in 2024 and 2025. Barkov became the first Finnish-born captain to win a Stanley Cup and the first European captain to lead multiple championship-winning teams, surpassing Olli Jokinen as the franchise's all-time leading goal-scorer and remaining one of the most respected two-way players in the league.

Barkov is renowned as an elite two-way center who combines exceptional offensive skill with outstanding defensive play. He possesses elite hockey IQ, excellent vision, and smooth skating ability that allows him to control the pace of the game.
