Roope Hintz was born on 17 November 1996 in Tampere, Finland, and progressed through the Ilves organisation's youth system before spending part of the 2012-13 season with the Tampa Bay Juniors and Bismarck Bobcats in North America, gaining early exposure to the North American style of play. Hintz made his Liiga debut with Ilves as a teenager, and the Dallas Stars selected him in the second round, 49th overall, of the 2015 NHL Draft, though he continued developing in Finland before earning a full-time NHL role during the 2019-20 season. Hintz, nicknamed the "Ace of Spades," developed into one of the Stars' most dangerous offensive weapons, combining size and speed to become an alternate captain and a consistent goal-scoring threat for the franchise. Hintz has continued to represent Finland internationally and remains one of Dallas's most important top-line forwards, having grown from a project prospect into one of the most complete power forwards in the league.
