Cappie Pondexter was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1980. Phoenix Mercury selected her second overall in the 2006 WNBA Draft from Rutgers. She won two WNBA championships (2007, 2009) with Phoenix and was named WNBA Finals MVP in 2007 after a dominant performance against the Detroit Shock. She won multiple WNBA scoring titles and was a six-time All-Star. Her scoring versatility — attacking off the dribble, pulling up from mid-range and shooting from three — produced some of the most dramatic individual performances in WNBA Finals history. She played for multiple franchises across a 14-year career and was consistently one of the league's most prolific scorers. She was named to the WNBA's 20th Anniversary All-Time team.
