Wilson Kipketer's world indoor 800m record, set in 1997, stood until 2026 — nearly three decades — and at his peak he held eight of the 17 fastest times ever recorded over the distance, making his sustained dominance of the event one of the most remarkable in the history of middle-distance running. champion Kip Keino.
