Victor Moses was born on 12 December 1990 in Kaduna, Nigeria, the son of a Christian pastor. When he was 11 years old, both of his parents were killed during a religious riot in the city — Victor survived only because he was out playing football at the time. Days later, relatives arranged for him to travel to England, where he was placed with a foster family in south London. Moses was discovered playing for a local team, Cosmos 90 FC, while attending Stanley Technical High School, and joined Crystal Palace's academy. He moved to Wigan Athletic in 2010, making his Premier League debut, before Chelsea signed him in 2012, where he won the Europa League in his debut season. Moses spent several seasons on loan away from Chelsea, including spells at Liverpool, Stoke City, and West Ham United, before manager Antonio Conte reinvented him as a wing-back in 2016-17 — a tactical switch that transformed his career and helped Chelsea win the Premier League title that season. Despite representing England at every youth level, Moses switched his international allegiance to Nigeria in 2012, and was part of the side that won the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations, assisting the winning goal in the final. He went on to represent Nigeria at the 2014 and 2018 World Cups, later playing for Inter Milan, Spartak Moscow, and Luton Town.
